Peter Valentine Aged 101

The Eastbourne District General Hospital

We are privileged not only to acquaint with, but also to be so strongly supported by dedicated fundraiser and war veteran

Peter Valentine. Friends Chairman Harry Walmsley met recently with 101-year-old Peter and his wife Heather, joined by Trust Chairman Steve Phoenix, Trust Chief Executive Jayne Black, and Shaun Crowhurst of Radio DGH, for a chat about Peter’s life and his current fundraising challenge for the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital. At one point recalling the final days of the war, Peter remembered two friends who had been killed in service just two days before the surrender of the German forces which ended hostilities. It was a poignant memory, acknowledging the waste of two young lives so close to peace. Eighty years later, and Peter powers on, never wasting a single minute of the life he feels so lucky to live. He fills it with friends, family, fundraising, walking and church.

Where once Peter’s fundraising challenge had been to raise money for the Friends by walking to the DGH every month of this year, he has now declared that he is aiming beyond this, and will now complete this once-monthly mission for “as long as I live”. As Peter made this statement, he clenched his fist in a fantastic display of determination.

We honour Peter, and all those who served, on the 80th anniversary of the peace they secured

Winners Feadback: Paradise Park & Gardens

Mr Webber recently won a family set of tickets to visit local attraction Paradise Park & Gardens Newhaven. Mr Webber kindly took these wonderful photograph’s for us to share with you but excluded the images of the Children. Mr Webber said, Paul was having a great time, he loves swinging around, he really enjoyed the outside activities, whilst young David wouldn’t leave the soft play area. Only an ice cream could lure him away.

Kevin Turner: Marketing Executive from Radio DGH said, We were delighted to partner with Paradise Park during our Big Prize Giveaway campaign. Furthermore we are very pleased to know that Mr Webber along with Paul & David had so much fun at Paradise Park.
